Open Call for Artists: Exploring Womanhood
The theme of female sexuality, embodiment, and sensuality has always been intriguing for both artists and art observers. Contemporary artists continue to explore various aspects of femininity, the representation of the body, and interactions between people.
“Be a good girl,” dictates the world to women consistently. But what does it really mean? In a patriarchal society, a “good girl” is just a convenient, obedient woman, deprived of her true nature. For centuries, the power of women has been intentionally suppressed to make them vulnerable, fragile, and thus fully dependent on men. Women were used by men as slaves and servants. Even in the modern world, women often try to conceal “uncomfortable” aspects of their expression in order to be perceived as “good” in the eyes of society. This results in a lack of self-acceptance and distrust of women in their own authentic thoughts and feelings, leading to insecurities and unrealized potential.
But the truth is – women are so powerful in so many aspects! They create and bring new life into the world with their bodies. They are incredibly sensitive to the beauty
around them. And they have everything to successfully pursue any career paths and creative endeavors that they dream of. We want more women to let go of societal expectations and return to their true, powerful nature, and this is why our upcoming project is all about womanhood.
We are excited to announce an open call for Ukrainian artists who are exploring various aspects of womanhood, gender issues, femininity, and sexuality in their artistic practice. This project aims to provide a platform for creative expression and highlight the significance of these themes’ exploration in contemporary art.
Artists are encouraged to submit their works in any form or genre, including painting, sculpture, photography, installation, and video art. To participate in the competition, complete the application form by December 31st, 2023.
The call is open to all Ukrainian artists who live in Ukraine or abroad.
⚫️ The shortlisted pieces will be showcased on the First Ukrainian Gallery’s website, providing a virtual exhibition experience.
⚫️ Every participant whose work is included in the shortlist will be awarded a Certificate of Participation
⚫️ Following the competition, we will select 30 artworks to be featured in a group exhibition at The First Ukrainian Gallery US, New York in February-March 2024.

The results will be announced after January 31, 2024
* A non-refundable administration fee for one artwork is $55; for a series — $90
*Application form and/or administration fee payment does not guarantee participation. “The First Ukrainian Gallery US” reserves the right to accept or reject any application without giving any reason whatsoever. The only valid confirmation of participation in final exhibition is the “Congratulation Letter” issued by “The First Ukrainian Gallery US.”

Відкритий конкурс для митців
Тема жіночої сексуальності, тілесності і чуттєвості завжди була і залишається актуальною та інтригуючою як для художників, так і для спостерігачів мистецтва.
“Будь хорошою дівчинкою,” — постійно диктує жінкам суспільство. “Хороша дівчинка” в патріархальному суспільстві — ”зручна”, слухняна жінка. Упродовж століть сила жінки спеціально придушувалася, аби зробити її вразливою, крихкою і незахищеною, повністю залежною від чоловіка. Жінки використовувалися чоловіками як рабині та служниці.
Сучасні жінки і досі часто приховують “незручні” частини себе, аби бути “хорошими” в очах суспільства. Це виливається у несприйняття себе і свого тіла, а також своїх справжніх думок та почуттів, що призводить до комплексів та нереалізованого потенціалу.
Але ж насправді, сила жінки — неймовірна! Вона здатна створювати і приносити в цей світ нове життя. Вона глибоко відчуває прекрасне і здатна побудувати блискучу кар’єру в тій сфері, про яку вона мріє.
Ми хочемо підняти цю тему в нашому новому мистецькому проекті, бо хочемо, щоб кожна жінка у світі нарешті відчула себе вільною та повноцінною.
Ми хочемо надати митцям платформу для творчого самовираження та підкреслити важливість дослідження цієї тематики для сучасного мистецтва.
Приймати участь в конкурсі можуть роботи будь-яких форм та жанрів, включаючи живопис, скульптуру, фотографію, інсталяцію та відео-арт. Конкурс відкритий для всіх українських митців, які живуть в Україні та за кордоном.
Для участі в конкурсі потрібно заповнити аплікаційну форму за посиланням нижче до 31-го грудня цього року.
⚫️ Твори, що увійдуть до шорт-листу, будуть представлені на сайті у вигляді віртуальної експозиції.
⚫️ Кожного учасника віртуальної експозиції буде нагороджено Сертифікатом Учасника.
⚫️ В результаті конкурсу буде відібрано 30 робіт-переможців, які будуть представлені на груповій виставці в Нью-Йорку в лютому-березні 2024-го року.

Результати будуть оголошені після 31-го січня 2024 року
* Адміністративний збір, який не підлягає відшкодуванню, становить: за один твір мистецтва — 55$; за серію — 90$.
* Заповнення форми та/або оплата адміністративного збору не гарантують участь робіт у експозиції. “The First Ukrainian Gallery US” залишає за собою право прийняти чи відхилити будь-яку заявку без пояснення причини на це. Остаточне підтвердження участі у виставці можливе лише за наявності спеціального вітального листа, виданого “The First Ukrainian Gallery US.”
